August 26, 1954 – September 15, 2026
Janet Mary McKenelley, 72, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the C.H.U. Dumont Hospital. Born in Shemogue, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Duguay) Lennon.
Janet shared her life with her beloved husband, Wayne McKenelley, until his passing in 2009. A loyal and loving wife, wonderful mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished friend, Janet was best known for her unique blend of thoughtfulness, generosity, fierce independence, warm hospitality, and determination to live life on her own terms.
She was happiest when doing something for others and found great joy in bringing people together. She loved her evenings with the girls, arranging monthly lunches, hosting family and friends, and relaxing at the trailer. At the heart of Janet’s world was her family. Spending time with her children and grandchildren meant everything to her, and she treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved.
Janet will be sadly missed by her children, Dawn McKenelley (Derek) and Duane McKenelley (Janet); grandchildren, John Mackiewich and Samantha Callaghan; great-grandson, Ambrose; sisters, Ann Brideau, Alice LeBlanc, Karen Chandler, Kathy Lennon, Donna Lennon, and Carolyn Melanson; brothers, Jimmy Lennon and Donnie Lennon; as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Janet was predeceased by her sisters, Olive and Janice; and brothers, Owen, Hollie, William, Rodrick, Frederick, and Charles.
A time to gather, remember, and share memories of Janet will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995), on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Wayne, during a private family interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you consider performing a random act of kindness for someone in Janet’s memory—a fitting tribute to someone who found so much happiness in doing for others.
