Dieppe, NB – Fidélice Thibodeau, 93, living at Résidence Oasis in Dieppe, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 20, 2026, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born Fidélice Cormier in 1932 in Sainte-Antoine, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Marie-Louise (Robichaud) and Félix Cormier.
She spent 17 cherished years in Waltham, Massachusetts, where she built lasting friendships and community ties, and later became a longtime resident of Richibouctou-Village, New Brunswick.
Fidélice pursued her education with dedication, graduating from the Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Bouctouche and later from the New Brunswick Teachers’ College in Fredericton. She enjoyed a long and respected career as a schoolteacher and also served on the District School Board. A woman of deep Catholic faith and a love for music, Fidélice sang in church choirs and volunteered with numerous organizations throughout her life. She was involved with the Club d’âge d’or, serving a term as president, and also served on the parish council of Sainte-Antoine-de-Padoue.
Fidélice was the beloved wife of the late Eymard Thibodeau, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, a partnership marked by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion.
She is lovingly remembered by her seven children: Gabrielle Cunningham (late Carl) of Waltham, MA; Jean-Marc (Amy) of Dieppe, NB; Ronald (Deborah) of AZ; Huberte “Ann” Schall (Gary) of NJ; Denis (Vanessa) of AB; Albert (Donna) of OR; and Louise (Yves Gauvin) of Bathurst, NB. She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as seven step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Anise Maillet; her sisters-in-law, Alberta (Thibodeau) Maillet, Laura Cormier, Claudette Cormier, and Paulette Cormier; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Claire Pitre, Elévanie Arsenault, Dorice Cormier, Léona Richard, Thérèse Cormier, Lina Daigle, and Maria Maillet; and by her brothers, Laurie, Aurèle, Nazaire, and Emile.
Fidélice will be remembered for her devotion to family and community, her faith, her love of fiddle music, and the grace with which she touched the lives of others.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Résidence Oasis and the Dr. Georges-L-Dumont Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date (June or July 2026).
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fidélice may be made to Doctors Without Borders, the Parish of Sainte-Antoine-de-Padoue of Richibouctou-Village, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
