July 24, 1936 – May 19, 2026
Douglas Gordon William Sullivan, 89 of Indian Mountain, NB passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the Moncton Hospital.
He was born in Lennoxville, Quebec on July 24, 1936 to William Sullivan and Doris (Billson) Sullivan.
Doug became a professional golfer, a career that he pursued for over 70 years and took him from Lennoxville to St Thomas and London, Ontario and then on to New Brunswick. Doug met his partner in life, Brigid O’Connell, while giving her golf lessons at Gowan Brae Golf Club. They married on May 26, 1965.
Doug started his field of dreams, Country Meadows Golf Club, in Indian Mountain, NB in 1973. Doug was a tinkerer and a builder. When he wasn’t on the driving range poking and prodding at people’s swings he was on a piece of heavy equipment: digging holes, moving dirt, and executing a vision sometimes only he could see. He never retired – he always said, “where would I go, to a golf course?”.
After his family, golf was the love of his life. It gave him true friends, endless stories and countless laughs and lessons. He played competitively and won numerous tournaments, but was just as happy playing a round for quarters with friends.
His awards included the Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary) and the PGA of Canada Junior Leader of the Year. He was inducted into the Moncton Sports Wall of Fame as a builder in 1996, the PGA of Canada Atlantic Hall of Fame in 2019, and was a lifetime member of the PGA of Canada.
Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years Brigid, daughters Kathie (David Konning) and Susan (David Dupuis), grandchildren Anthony (Michelle) and Claire; and his sister Kathleen Hartwell.
There will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Many thanks to all those who helped along the way.
