Douglas A. Miles

1941 ~ 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas A Miles (Doug) on May 19, 2026 at the Moncton Hospital following a battle with lung cancer.  Born May 14, 1941 in Dawn Township, Ontario, he was the sixth son of the late Harvey Miles and the late Mary (Ward) Miles.  Doug received his elementary schooling in a one-room country school and then attended high school in Petrolia. Ontario.  Doug left school after completing grade 11 joining the work force in Wallaceburg at the Wallaceburg Brass Factory where he remained until enlisting in the RCAF as an Airframe Technician.

Following basic training in St Jean, Quebec and trades training at Camp Borden, Ontario, he was posted to Namao, Alberta; 4 Wing, Baden-Soellingen, Germany; Greenwood, Nova Scotia; followed by AMDU Trenton, Ontario and finally back to Greenwood, Nova Scotia.  During his 26 year career in the RCAF/CAF Doug attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Special Service Medal, Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and Canadian Forces Decoration Medal with Clasp.  While in the Air Force/Armed Forces, Doug obtained his Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence and on his return to Greenwood, he became owner and Chief Engineer of Waterville Aircraft Maintenance Ltd at the Kings County Airport in Cambridge Station, NS. Doug eventually sold this business to accept employment with Transport Canada Civil Aviation in Moncton as an Airworthiness Inspector before becoming an Investigation Inspector in the Enforcement Division.  His position when he retired was Superintendent, Transport Canada Civil Aviation Enforcement, Atlantic Region.

Besides his parents Doug was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law W. Harvey (Peggy), R. Nelson (Jean), Wallace (Marilyn), C. Marshall (Alice), J. Franklin (Elsie) and granddaughter Jodi Miles Prall,  nephews  Randy, Chris and Bill Miles and nieces Glynis (Miles) Wood and Bernice Miles.  Surviving Doug are his wife Rosanne Weldon-Miles; his former wife Pamela (Carter) Miles, Argyle, NS.; son Charles, Dieppe, NB; daughters Seri-Lynne, Argyle, NS; Lisa Gaudet (late John), Sluice Point, NS; and Ashley Jordan (James), Moncton, NB; grandsons Joseph Gaudet and Matthew Gaudet (Brithany) of Sluice Point, NS; Owen Jordan, Moncton, NB; granddaughters Brittany Miles (Travis Buckle) London, ON; Leah Miles, Riverview,NB; great-grandchildren Reese Buckle, Oliver Gaudet Smeltzer, Hudson Gaudet and Ellie Gaudet.  He is also survived by several loved nephews and nieces and totally enjoyed spending time with them at the yearly family reunion or any other time they could get together.

Doug was an ardent fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and during his younger years he was active in coaching and managing minor baseball, softball and hockey teams. He enjoyed gardening (didn’t matter if it was flowers or vegetables) as well as playing crib and uno.  He was an incredible cook and baker who once made birthday pies for family members. One of his greatest passions was genealogy, tracing his family history back hundreds of years.

Doug was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
