Alice Reader

1967~2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Reader on July 9, 2026, at the age of 59, surrounded by the love of her family at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.

Alice was the beloved wife of the late Paul Reader and the cherished daughter of the late Adrien Poirier and Rosaline Hebert.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Melissa Tilley and Danielle Tilley (Luke); her dear sisters, Gloria Cogswell and Marise Caissie (Jean-Claude); her brother Adrien Poirier (Janika); Josephine (Justin), and Nicole Allen (Adam), her stepmother Diane Poirier along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Alice was the proud and devoted grandmother of Angelica Davey, Vera Tilley-Murray, and Ruby Armstrong, who brought endless joy to her life. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband John-Paul (Paul) Reader, her parents Adrien and Rosaline, her beloved foster parents, her grandparents, many dear friends, and her faithful companions—three cherished cats and three beloved dogs.

A very special thank you goes to her treasured friend, Gale Connor Breau, whose unwavering love, friendship, and presence remained by Alice’s side until the very end.

Alice was truly one of a kind—a spitfire with a heart as big as her smile. She was the life of every party, strong-willed, fiercely independent, and never afraid to speak her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not. Her honesty was refreshing, her laughter contagious, and her love for those around her immeasurable.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: washing the dishes after a family meal, long walks on the beach, breathtaking sunsets, and cozy evenings watching her favorite cooking and reality television shows. She loved bringing people together, whether around the kitchen table or at a large family gathering. An exceptional cook and baker, her famous broccoli quiche became a family favorite, and she treasured teaching and cooking alongside her grandchildren. Alice also loved taking the dogs for drives in her truck with the windows down and never missed an opportunity to sing along to the music of Céline Dion.

Alice’s warmth, humour, generosity, and unforgettable spirit touched everyone, fortunate enough to know her. Her love will continue to live on in the many memories she created with family and friends.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of the Cardiac Unit at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness.

In Alice’s memory, donations to The Humanity Project would be greatly appreciated.
