New Website Encouraging Public Discussion

The renewal and revitalization of the downtown area is a priority issue for City Council and residents of Greater Moncton.

And to encourage public discussion and review of projects for the downtown a new website and forum has been created called Moncton100million.com.

Daniel LeBlanc is a spokesperson for the website and he explains why the site was built.

“The purpose is to be able to understand the large ticket item projects the Greater Moncton region is looking at,” says LeBlanc So we have a number of 100 million dollar projects on the books that are being planned.”

LeBlanc says that includes the plans for the downtown entertainment centre, as well as the upgrade of the sewage treatment plant among other projects.

“Basically, the forum is there to try to establish the most recent facts on each of those projects and provide archives and media references and plans that will be able to be reviewed by the public,” says LeBlanc.

He adds one of the challenges for the public can be the number of changes the projects go through before they are finally approved.

“The projects change, the numbers change, the concept and everything can evolve,” says LeBlanc. “And it’s good perhaps to take a second look at it before those projects are approved.”

He says the website will be a medium for gathering information and encouraging discussion and feedback from the public on these projects.
