The provincial government has announced two million dollars for the planning phase.
Francophone South School District Superintendent Monique Boudreau says existing schools are bursting at the seams.
“We already have portables at Ecole Le Sommet. Next year we will have 8 portables at that school. The new Ecole Champlain which just opened last year… we will be adding a portable next year,” says Boudreau..
A site for the new school has not yet been chosen but it will be located somewhere between Elmwood Drive and Mapleton Road in north end Moncton.
The school which would likely house about 800 students may not be ready until 2021.
