Families in the Beausejour region with young children who lack a primary care provider will soon have a new place to turn for help.
Vitalite Health Network announced a new clinic in Dieppe will open on January 19 to support nearly 2,000 children aged five and under who are waiting to be attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
The clinic is located at 667 Champlain Street and will be staffed by physicians and nurses who will provide regular medical follow‑up.
Each visit will include checks on a child’s growth and development, along with reviews of eating habits, sleep and hygiene, according to Vitalite.
Immunization records will be updated, and parents will receive guidance on safety, prevention and parenting.
The clinic will also treat common illnesses, including fever, cough, ear infections, respiratory infections, skin rashes, digestive issues, and conjunctivitis.
Children may also be followed for chronic conditions including asthma, eczema and allergies, as well as behavioural or developmental concerns. Access to the clinic will be by referral only.
Vitalite said families will be directed to the service through its care teams and partners, and newborns born in Moncton hospitals who do not have a primary care provider will also be referred.
Vitalite explained that the service was previously offered through NB Health Link but is now under its responsibility, and families affected by the transition have been notified.
“This clinic is part of a close collaboration between NB Health Link, Vitalité Health Network and Public Health to ensure uninterrupted continuity of care,” said Stéphanie Roy, the Network’s assistant vice‑president of health and community services.
She said the goal is to attach children to local family health teams as soon as possible, or by the end of their follow‑up at the clinic.
