New Mayor Dawn Arnold says this new Council will do things differently.
“Transparency, accessibility, collaboration and engagement are words we’ll be hearing more frequently around City Hall,” says Arnold. “As well, residents of Moncton expect this Council to work together to move this City forward and be responsible.”
Not all the Councillors are returning incumbents, with three new men appearing on Council.
Councillor at Large Greg Turner, and two new Councillors for Ward Three, Bryan Butler, and Robert McKee were elected this year.

Mayor Arnold says Council is looking forward to getting started, but also highlighted the importance of public engagement.
“We can’t do this alone, everyone has a role play to in the success of our City,” says Arnold. “And we are going to look to you, the residents, to help us achieve our goals. We need your input and feedback.”
Arnold was asked how she felt about being the first female to ever hold the office of Mayor in Moncton.
“I was running along the riverfront on the weekend and I saw the Salter monument, and it was pretty profound to look since 1857 every single name that’s there is a man,” says Arnold. “I’m pretty happy there will be a female added to that list finally.”
Arnold added she will be speaking with and encouraging young women throughout her tenure to consider a future in municipal politics.
In her first speech as Mayor she spoke about Moncton being on the cusp of greatness, and the undoubted ability to overcome the many challenges facing the City in the future.
The Robes and Chain of Office are put on the new Mayor by the City Clerk, as mandated by law.
