New Brunswick’s Healthcare System Graded

The latest report card on health care released by the New Brunswick Health Council shows a need for reforming primary health care which is the first point of contact when people are under the weather.

The Health Council’s grade is a “C” with under performance in prescription drug coverage, wait times, readmission rates to hospitals and use of emergency rooms.

Health Council CEO Stephane Robichaud says there’s also the issue of hospital beds being used by long term care patients who should not be hospitalised which has been a problem for the 8 years he has been involved with health care.

Robichaud warns without reform in primary health care, you’re not going to see any improvement in health outcomes.
