‘Never Gets Easier’-Father Speaks Of Daughter’s Murder 31 Years Later

A man convicted of killing a teenager while she was closing up her family’s store on St. George Street has been granted an extension in his day parole.

16 year old Laura Ann Davis was shot and killed by Patrice Mailloux in 1987.

Laura’s father Ron says even though 31 years has passed, they still deal with their loss daily, “You probably learn to handle it a bit better, but I don’t think the feelings have changed a bit. he has done nothing to make us want to try and change our feelings either. We lost a beautiful daughter, we lost her growing up in school and getting marries. It is always difficult. It never gets easier.”

Mailloux was recently given an extension for another six months of day parole.

Laura’s family have attended every full parole hearing that has been held since he was sent to prison.

“They were just going to do it on paper and advise us, but I said, no that’s not going to happen. If he is being considered for full parole, the family has the right to be there. We will do that, as long as we’re capable or as long as he is there,” Davis says.

Ron says he has never seen a change in Mailloux, “We probably could live with it, if he’d shown any signs of remorse or done anything with his education to improve so that when he does get released, then he wouldn’t go back to his old habits, but I can honestly say, I really haven’t seen any change in him in the thirty-one years, other than age.”
