The man behind Needle Dogs Moncton is begging City Council for further assistance taking needles out of public spaces.
By their own count, Richard Hyslop and his volunteers have removed almost 65,000 used needles from the streets since 2009.
Since 2017, they have taken almost 12,000 needles off the streets.
“We need help with vet bills, sharps containers, NARCAN kits, grippers,” lists Hyslop. “We have 50 some people that are waiting for gear to go around the whole city and clean up the parks [and] trails.”
City Director of Recreation and Leisure Jocelyn Cohoon says they have already provided some items to support Needle Dogs Moncton, and they are open to further meetings with stakeholders like Needle Dogs and SIDA/AIDs Moncton to discuss how they can help.
