540 students from various programs will officially graduate from NBCC Moncton today.
Jace Patriquin was chosen to be this years Valedictorian. He is graduating as a Truck and Transport Service Technician, and he was surprised and flattered to be chosen to give today’s speech, “Business is a course that trumps Valedictorian speeches every year. They have to communicate in their everyday jobs, whereas in trades, I took the Truck and Transport Technician program, and I’ll work with trucks, we don’t have to deal with the public very often.”
But he says, they are trying to change the stigma attached to trades, “We actually have to take a Communications course now in my program. People may assume that someone taking a trades course, isn’t good with talking to people.”
Patriquin was nominated by one of his Instructors to be Valedictorian, because of his personality.
Graduation ceremonies will be held at the Moncton Coliseum, starting at 3:30 this afternoon.
