NB to have lowest minimum wage in Canada

MONCTON, N.B. – New Brunswick’s minimum wage will soon be the lowest in the country.

It currently sits at 10 dollars an hour.

Alberta is planning an increase in September, and Newfoundland and Labrador in October and that will leave New Brunswick tied for last place with the Northwest Territories.

Spokesperson for the Common Front for Social Justice Jean-Claude Basque says the low minimum wage makes it very difficult to support a family in this province.

Basque says the government should be considering an immediate increase to $10.25 and then increase it by 25 cents for the next three years which would put the minimum wage at 11 dollars an hour by 2017.
