NB Teen Heading To National Karaoke Competition In Ontario

A Miramichi teen, who has a passion for music, is hoping for more exposure, when she represents New Brunswick at a national karaoke contest.

19 year old Hannah Hosford has been performing since she was 13 years old.

This year, she competed at a provincial karaoke competition in Oromocto and was chosen to move on.

She will head to Kingston Ontario next month to compete against performers from 10 provinces.

Hosford says she has a couple of favourite artists, “Barbara Streisand and Whitney Houston and those are usually the artists I stick with. In Ontario, I will be doing for sure, Don’t Rain On My Parade, by Barbara Streisand. I haven’t yet decided on my other song, but that is one of them.”

She loves to perform cover tunes and has been inspired by an artist from the show Glee,”My favourite artist is Lea Michele. She changes some of the styles of the songs. So, I take some of those and add some of my own twist. Then I take some of Lea and I take some of Barbara and I mix them together.”

The top prize in the competition on August 18th is $10, 000.

Several fundraisers have also been organized for Hosford, to help her family afford the trip to Kingston, Ontario.
