NB Power Reports Shorter, Fewer Outages; Record Use Of Renewables

NB Power is reporting a good year with fewer and shorter outages.

The length of power outages was reduced by a quarter, with the frequency down by 15%.

NB Power says that progress is thanks to increased investments in tree trimming and new infrastructure.

As well, they set a record of %42 renewable energy in the grid, mostly because the unusually warm winter didn’t require a lot of fossil fuel generated power.

NB Power also says with Point Lepreau down for maintenance, they bought more out of province hydro power, which contributed to their renewables number.

While they admit those factors are unlikely to be present in years going forward, they recommitted to achieving 40% renewables in the grid by 2020.
