An ongoing campaign by the New Brunswick Medical Society and Dieticians is looking at whether or not schools are offering healthy food choices to students.
They’ve launched their second Make Menus Matter campaign with the hopes of getting parents and kids involved.
Dr. Camille Haddad says they are encouraging them to send photos of their school menus and what they are eating, to see if it fits the provincial nutritional policies.
He says, “If we can start at the school, and get the parents involved, then maybe we can change things at school and then at home, and that will go a long way in tackling the obesity issue that we have.’
Roughly one hundred menus have been received so far, but parents have until the 25th to make their submissions.
Once all of them are received, dieticians will analyze them and release results of which schools are doing well, and which are not, with the hopes that even more improvements can be made.
