NB Green Party Leader Issues Statement To Recognize International Women’s Day

New Brunswick Green Party Leader David Coon issuing a statement in recognition of International Women’s Day.

Coon says for the first time in the history of International Women’s Day, our federal cabinet contains the same number of women as men.

He says it sends an important message to young women and girls, that women, men, together, are making the important decisions about the future of our country, not the least of which are those needed to eliminate poverty.

Coon says urgent decisions are needed to end the feminization of poverty. He says women, both single mothers and seniors, disproportionately make up the poor in New Brunswick and Canada.

Coon says 21 percent of single mothers in the country are raising their children in poverty.
