N.B. Man Arrested After Stolen Van ‘Rammed’ Police Car

A New Brunswick man is facing several charges after driving a stolen minivan into a police car on Tuesday night, according to Nova Scotia RCMP.

Cumberland County District RCMP says they received a report of a stolen minivan in the Pugwash area on the morning of Nov. 30. Two suspects were identified as being involved in the theft, and police began attempts to locate them and the stolen minivan.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Mounties located the stolen minivan travelling on Hwy. 2 near Sackville, New Brunswick.

“As the minivan entered Nova Scotia, police attempted to stop it. The minivan accelerated in an attempt to flee, and police deployed a spike belt on Hwy. 104 which was successful in deflating the minivan’s tires,” states the release.

“The suspects continued their attempts to flee from police, even after the tires went flat. The minivan then rammed a police car, which resulted in the minivan being immobilized,”

Police say the male driver tried to flee the area on foot but was arrested a short distance away. A female passenger was also arrested.

Mounties found several stolen items in the minivan, along with methamphetamine.

27-year-old Normand Gautreau of Memramcook has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Flight from Police, Resist Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Theft of Motor Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Property.

They say Gautreau has been remanded into custody and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on Dec. 6.

The woman was later released on conditions and will be facing similar charges. She will appear in court at a later date.
