Municipal by-elections will need to be held in the new year as a result of the provincial election last month.
Chief Electoral Officer for Elections NB Kim Poffenroth confirms that by-elections are scheduled for May of 2019.
Those holding Council seats must resign before they can be sworn in as MLA’s.
That includes Rob McKee who was elected in Moncton Centre and Jacques Leblanc who is the Mayor of Shediac.
Sackville Councillor Megan Mitton and Saint John City Councillor Gerry Lowe are awaiting recounts in the ridings of Memramcook-Tantramar and Saint John Harbour before they resign their seats.
