Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott are speaking out after being removed from the Liberal caucus earlier this week.
It came just days after Wilson-Raybould, the former attorney general, revealed recorded conversations in connection with the SNC-Lavalin affair.
Wilson-Raybould said she thinks it is alarming people are focusing on the actual recording of a tape instead of its contents.
“I recorded that tape. There is nothing illegal about it and I said in any other circumstances, it would be inappropriate,” said Wilson-Raybould.
“I was protecting myself. I knew that something very dangerous and wrong was going to happen and that my job was at risk.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it was “unconscionable” for Wilson-Raybould to secretly record the conversation she had with the clerk of the Privy Council.
“Talking about unconscionable, I think it is unconscionable to tread over the independence of the prosecutor,” Wilson-Raybould said. “It is unconscionable not to uphold the rule of law.”

Philpott resigned from the Treasury Board portfolio in March over the government’s handling of the SNC-Lavalin affair.
She said her decisions were made on the basis of what she believed is best for Canadians.
“You have to be able to hold your head high and look at yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and say that the choices that you made were the best ones under the circumstances,” Philpott said.
