Moncton Joins Climate Emergency Movement

The City of Moncton has joined the list of communities in a growing climate emergency movement.

Federal government scientists said this week that Canada is warming up at twice the rate of the rest of the world.

City councillor Pierre Boudreau put forth a motion which prompts Moncton to achieve net zero carbon emissions within 30 years.

“It takes courage… it takes determination to see the truth instead of the convenient. But you know what… it’s worth it.”

While this move is seen mainly as symbolic, Councillor Paul Pellerin would like to see the city take more comprehensive action to reduce its carbon footprint such as exploring solar power.

The City of Moncton has become the latest community to join a growing climate emergency movement around the world which also includes Edmundston, Halifax, Hamilton and Vancouver.
