We have the busiest border in the world between Canada and the United States.
That word from Southwest New Brunswick MP John Williamson as the federal government plans to invest $32.5 million to upgrade infrastructure at the four Charlotte County crossings. That includes two in St. Stephen, at the Ferry Point Bridge and Milltown, along with the Campobello and St. Croix ports of entry.
Williamson says there are always challenges with long line ups, especially when construction is involved.
However, he adds, St. Stephen has the new third bridge in place while Ferry Point and Milltown have work done, and Campobello has handled construction very well in the past, having road work and construction to the bridge in the past few years.
Williamson says the Ferry Point Bridge port of entry in St. Stephen was last upgraded in 1978.
A total of $440 million dollars will be invested in border crossings nationwide.
