Metro Moncton MP Robert Goguen says the world is a changing place and he supports more resources for national defence and organizations such as CSIS and the RCMP.
However, Goguen is unable to say if all RCMP detachments will now have access to carbine rifles which the force has said it needed in the wake of last June’s shootings in Moncton.
“I can’t point to a yes or a no but I would be very surprised if monies hadn’t been allocated for that.”
Goguen says more information will likely come early next year when the RCMP is expected to release a report based on recommendations from a recent review of the Moncton shootings.
He added $1 million has also been set aside in the federal budget for supporting a memorial for the three RCMP officers killed in Moncton.
