Early Sunday afternoon, Mounties say a man got into the driver’s seat of a woman’s SUV which was parked at Champlain Mall near the Toys-R-Us entrance.
The woman told police the man started the engine while she and her three children were in the vehicle.
After being unable to turn off the engine, the woman got her children out of the vehicle before the suspect drove away.
The man spoke English without an accent and is described as mid-thirties, roughly 5 foot 10 inches tall with a thin build.
He was wearing dark framed eye glasses, a black baseball hat, jeans and carried a backpack.
The stolen SUV is a black 2010 Honda Pilot, with a Prince Edward Island licence plate, 908KU.
Police are sharing images captured on surveillance cameras at the mall prior to the incident.
Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who recognizes the suspect, is asked to call the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400.
