The 13th edition of the Mosaiq Multicultural Festival is being held today and tomorrow in Moncton celebrating international music, culture and cuisine.
Riverfront Park will be hosting many of the events including interactive activities for kids, a wide variety of music, crafts, exhibits and food from around the world.
With about one thousand newcomers arriving in the past year, MAGMA spokesperson Justin Ryan says Greater Moncton has become more multicultural and foods that older generations may have found ethnic have become normal for younger generations.
“I know people from my granmother’s generation that they wouldn’t eat pasta because that was foreign food and if you talk to one of our kids today it’s ridiculous that you would even consider not just things like pasta but hummus and pita bread,” he says.
For activities such as martial arts or zumba, Ryan says the younger crowd has stopped thinking about them as multicultural and they are just things they do with their friends.
