Large Crowd Welcomes Special Olympics Athletes During Parade And Ceremonies

Loud cheers could be heard coming from Moncton City Hall last night, as crowds gathered to offer encouragement to the hundreds of athletes who are competing over the next four days in the Special Olympics New Brunswick Summer games.

The athletes, volunteers and coaches formed a parade starting at Foundry Street, and made their way to City hall last night where the opening ceremonies were held.

Athletes are competing in a number of sports in venues in all three communities, including bowling, swimming, golf, athletics, and power lifting.

Several dignitaries were in attendance, including Mayors Ann Seamans, Yvon Lapierre, and Deputy Mayor Blair Lawrence, as well as Greater Moncton MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor and New Brunswick’s Lieutenant Governor Jocelyne Roy Vienneau..

Events will officially get underway this morning.
