A Moncton woman has proven that persistence with diet and exercise can help you achieve your goal.
In March of last year, Susie Gunderson decided it was time to make a change. After seeing photos of herself, she says, “I really didn’t like what I was seeing. I was quite embarrassed that I had left myself go. I decided I needed to make a life change.”
Since then, she has lost over 100 pounds.
With the help of a friend, she did some meal planning and stuck with it. She did it in small steps, making sure that she stuck with the healthy eating first, and then she gradually started to walk. Then she began a program at the gym.
Gunderson says she was determined to see this through, but for others who may have also faced being overweight, she says, “Commit. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you are starting out. If it’s the food you are challenged with, make that change first.”
Gunderson admits this weight loss has given her the confidence to do things she never has before. She is signed up to run a half marathon in May, and last year she tried Tree Go at Centennial Park. She says, “That’s something I wouldn’t have had the confidence to try, if I hadn’t lost the weight.”
Her advice to others, “Baby steps are the key. Set small goals, and keep reminding yourself that you CAN succeed.”
