The Moncton Wildcats announced this morning that they are bidding to host the Mastercard Memorial Cup in 2019.
The team last hosted the event in 2006 at the Moncton Coliseum, but this mornings announcement stated that they plan to take advantage of the City’s new state of the art Downtown Events Centre and will also have access to the plaza adjacent to the centre.

Team President Robert Irving said this is about more than just bringing a hockey championship to town.
“We want this event to be a community event, a week of full entertainment like the Memorial Cup organizers have never seen in the past,” says Irving. “We want to remember our military for the sacrifices that they’ve done, and we think this is going to, again, put Moncton on the map.”
“The Moncton Wildcats want to host this world class event again in 2019. While hockey will be at the centre of everything we do, we plan to build a full community celebration, unlike one we’ve ever seen before, around the Mastercard Memorial Cup, ” Irving says.
“Moncton has proven time and time again that we are the entertainment capital of Atlantic Canada. In addiiton to providing exciting action on the ice for hockey fans across the country, we will offer everyone a taste of the Memorial Cup through outdoor community activities and entertainment planned in and around our downtown,” Mayor Dawn Arnold added.
The Moncton WIldcats will have to wait until April 2018 to find out whether or not they are successful in their bid
