A local man is being honoured with the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for High Achievement in the Performing Arts for his ballet show, Ghosts of Violence.
Igor Dobrovolskiy is the co founder, artistic director and choreographer for the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada based in Moncton.
Igor says the show raises awareness about violence against women and girls and encourages victims to speak out.
“What happens with this problem in the community, usually victims don’t talk, they just keep silent until they are killed, and it was important that we bring an open discussion.”
Ghosts of Violence has been performed in 40 communities across Canada since 2011, and Igor says they will continue to perform at schools, free of charge.
