The Gallant government’s new Tuition Access Bursary program is offering free tuition to students who qualify and who will be attending a publicly-funded educational institution in the fall.
But the government is concerned the opposition Conservatives are creating confusion and fear-mongering surrounding the new tuition program.
Post-Secondary Education Minister Donald Arsenault says the bursary itself will not impact the overall family income when a student receives it.
“If I receive the tuition access bursary, the taxable benefit or bursary is tied to the individual who gets it. It is not tied to the parents’ household income when they do their income taxes, it goes to the individual who receives it,” he notes.
Arsenault adds a bursary is always taxable but again he stresses it only impacts an individual student and not the overall family income.
