Mayors Of Moncton, Saint John, And Fredericton Meet To Discuss Mutual Issues

The Mayors of the three biggest cities in New Brunswick are already meeting and working on the future.

Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold says the three leaders had promised to meet after the election ended this Spring.

She adds Premier Brian Gallant ended up being included in the meeting.

“To discuss different issues that these three large cities are dealing with in the context of the Province and what we thought he might be able to do,” says Arnold. “So we gave him lots of good advice and I think he had open ears and listened to us very carefully.”

She says they plan to make these meetings more regular throughout their tenure.

“I believe the Mayors have got together in the past, I don’t know how frequently,” says Arnold. “I do know that Mayor George LeBlanc, he got together with the Mayors of Saint John and Fredericton in the past but not with much regularity I don’t think.”

However, Arnold says “I believe that we will meet on a fairly regular basis and get together, or even just pick up the phone and say this is what I’m dealing with, how are you guys handling the situation?”

Arnold says the biggest issue brought up was the fact the Municipalities Act is almost a half century out of date.
