Moncton’s Mayor is hoping he can get a commitment from the province’s main political parties to bring in a Tourism Marketing Levy if elected on September 22nd.
George LeBlanc says the levy is important to the city’s plans for a downtown entertainment centre and is already in place in several other provinces.
LeBlanc says numerous groups here have endorsed the levy already, “It is strongly supported by this council and it strongly supported by other municipalities, and the Province of New Brunswick. It is strongly supported by the Tourism Association of New Brunswick. It is strongly supported by the Moncton area Hoteliers.”
So far, the Tories have committed to set up the necessary legislation to allow for a new Tourism Marketing Fund and the N-D-P has pledged to create a tourism marketing fund to be collected via a hotel levy.
