Mayor Don Darling Says The Aquatic Centre Needs to Be Better Utilized To Stay Open

Saint John Mayor Don Darling is again warning people they really need to start using the Canada Games Aquatic Centre or it could be gone.

Darling says even though it has seen an increase of 30 percent in membership since last fall, it is still losing a lot of money.

“You can’t avoid having conversations about buildings like the Aquatic Centre on average there is a $700,000 to $800,000 deficit running a building like that on an annual basis, so everything will have to be on the table as we move forward,” says Mayor Darling.

The Mayor also says they are looking to enhance governance at the Centre and getting new board members to help with their strategic plan, in hopes of turning things around.
