Conservative immigration critic Michelle Rempel is calling on the federal government to expedite the processing of Yazidi refugees.
She was joined in Ottawa by human rights activist Nadia Murad, who was enslaved by ISIS before escaping.
Rempel became emotional when talking about the atrocities that have been committed by ISIS, calling them horrors she can’t talk about publicly.
She would like to see the cap lifted on private sponsorships so more Yazidi refugees can come to Canada. Rempel says Yazidi witnesses have described being discriminated against by people from the United Nations who are responsible for selecting refugees for resettlement.
