1918, Ireland. WWI hasn’t yet ended, and the world is in the midst of the Spanish Flu pandemic. A nurse in an overcrowded and understaffed Dublin hospital looks after labouring pregnant women who also have the illness that ultimately kills as much as 6 percent of the world’s population.

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue, two thumbs up.
Available from all NB public libraries. 🙂
