Heritage Developments has revealed their plans for the former Moncton High School.
They include making a portion of the building into a call centre and also converting some of the land into two parking lots.
Moncton Centre MLA Chris Collins says despite what type of business goes in, the new owners are keeping their promise, “The building is being saved, and essentially that is what is important to Monctonians. A great deal of importance is being placed on this Heritage property. This organization, Heritage Development is keeping 100 per cent of the building, nothing is being torn down, there is no police station being built.”
Collins also pointed out, “Regardless of whether it is a call centre, it is a business building. it is going to be an office building, that is what is very, very important to remember here. It is exciting that this organization came forward and are going to put a plan forward that creates revenue that is going to save the entire building.”
He adds there are a lot of benefits to this offer, including additional parking and also the creation of 500 to 1000 new jobs for our city.
Heritage Developments is looking for the building to be rezoned from community use to a mixed use zone.
Mayor Dawn Arnold says “The public presentation will be on September 18th, there will be a public hearing on November 6th, but prior to that, there will be some sort of public engagement session so that everyone can get up to speed on what’s happening,” says Arnold.
Arnold adds a traffic impact study is also necessary, as is review of the changes by the Heritage Conservation Board, and the Planning Advisory Committee.
