Moncton City Council meets tonight, and they will hear from a group who are looking to see changes to New Brunswick’s cycling laws.
They’ve introduced what they are calling a One Metre Law for Ellen.
Rallies were held on New Years Day in Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton to raise awareness.
They’re hoping to see Moncton City Council get behind the changes as well.
Premier Brian Gallant is offering condolences to the family of Ellen Watters, the well known cyclist, who died in hospital after being hurt in a crash with a motorist in Sussex just before Christmas.
Gallant calls her death a loss for the province and the whole country and he says they look forward to working with community leaders on this.
Gallant says he knows some cabinet ministers have already been talking to community leaders on cycling safety and hopes from this terrible tragedy, something positive happen.
The Mayors of Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton have come out in favour of Ellen`s Law that would require drivers to stay at least a metre away fronm cyclists on the roads.
