Provincial Liberals are in hot water after a letter was leaked last week which appeared to show politically friendly businesses would get preferential treatment when it came to road work contracts.
The letter, from a Moncton lawyer, says Ian Pelkey has asked whether there are any Liberal companies or individuals in Riverview who might like to bid on those types of contracts.
Pelkey is an executive assistant to Cathy Rogers, the Minister of Social Development, and Minister of Healthy and Inclusive Communities for New Brunswick.
Rogers insists the letter is a miscommunication and she has no idea why it was sent out.
“It was written by a volunteer in an association under no direction of myself or Mr. Pelkey,” says Rogers. “No one in my staff will ever operate with political interference in government processes, and if I ever found out that they do, they will not be my staff.”
Rogers says she has spoken with Pelkey, and she still has full confidence in him. She goes on to say one of the main reasons she entered politics was to bring transparency and ethics to government.
