Latest Millionaire Receives Cheque In Summerside, PEI

Atlantic Canada has its latest millionaire.

Eric Gerlund was presented a cheque by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation in Summerside today….

A million dollar win after matching all six numbers in last Wednesdays Atlantic 49 draw…

Gerlund says he checked the numbers of the computer several times before he finally realised he has won, “I looked at the numbers on the computer and thought maybe I won $10. I eventually went back to check the numbers again, and when I did, I thought, Holy Lord, I couldn’t believe it.”

He says when he realised he’d won, his mind went all loopy. He did the dishes and walked the dog before he called ALC to confirm the win.

Gerlund moved to PEI from out West. His plans for the money include taking the year off, and touring Atlantic Canada, and he’ll also be fixing up his old home in Bedeque..

He is a set designer and art director with close to 30 years’ experience in the film and television industry. He was recently offered a six month job offer in Vancouver, but turned it down in favour of spending time at home. If he hadn’t, he may never have won the jackpot.

“I can’t tell you just how overwhelming it is,” Gerlund says.

Whatever happens, he is happy to call P.E.I. home for life.

“Because of the move, and moving to a place you want to be, is huge. And now this happening: it frees up the ability where I can make some choices for me now.”
