Keeping Your Home Secure While Vacationing

Many of you may be heading to warmer climes in the coming days or weeks to break up the monotony of winter.

Police forces across the region advise you should make sure your home is secure while you’re away.

RCMP Corporal Greg Church says a good starting point is making sure your home looks lived in.

Church also suggests having neighbors pick up your newspapers from the steps, install timers so your lights come on and shutoff automatically, don’t close the curtains or drapes and maybe have a few security cameras in your home to record any un-expected activity.

Church says thieves stalking homes often check social media sites, like Twitter, to confirm absenteeism before they break in and steal – so be careful not to tip off crooks that you’re away.
