An Edmundston judge has been appointed to the New Brunswick Court of Appeal in Fredericton, the province’s highest court.
Justice Lucie LaVigne replaces Justice J.C. Marc Richard who was appointed the Chief Justice of New Brunswick at the beginning of May.
Justice LaVigne was appointed to the New Brunswick Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmundston back in 2001.
A release from the federal department of Justice says she is a well-known advocate for women’s equality and has been heavily involved in promoting women in the law profession.
She’s a former president of the Canadian chapter of the International Association of Women Judges.
