Up to 1000 jobs could be cut from the provincial civil service in next week’s budget.
This would be done through retirements, layoffs and department consolidations.
Minister Victor Boudreau says the health and education sectors would not be considered for these cuts.
He adds throughout the Strategic Program Review process, many New Brunswickers supported reshaping the civil service as a way to save money.
There are currently over 9000 people working in the civil service in the province.
Boudreau adds they would plan to cut most jobs by attrition, and would help those laid off find employment in other markets.
