It’s “The Coldest Night Of The Year” For Youth

Hundreds are expected to walk tonight to raise money for Moncton’s homeless, hungry and hurting youth.

It is the 5th year Youth Impact has been taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year event.

Associate Director Cathy Manuel says they are hoping to see even more walkers, and they have already surpassed their financial goal of $80,000.

“With Moncton, there is usually a flood of people who register at the last minute,” says Manuel. “We are really trying to hit 400 walkers this year, and we are already up over 300.”

The money this year will benefit Youth Impact Transitional Housing programs and for Youth Quest Central on St. George Street.

“Transitional housing provides youth ages 16 to 22, who don’t have a secure, stable home environment, a safe place to go,” says Manuel. “They can come and live in transitional housing for up to a year.

Manuel continues, describing Youth Quest Central as “a drop in centre for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 years old that help with basic survival needs.”

“They can get showered, they can do laundry, and they can get food or clothing and they can use the internet as well,” Manuel says.

Registration for tonight’s Coldest Night of the Year event starts at 4 o’clock at the Moncton Lions Club, and the walk begins at 5.
