It’s National Animal Control Officers Appreciation Week!

They’re the officers who come to your neighbourhood if there is an animal complaint, and they often deal with snarling dogs, or hissing cats.

Don’t you think they deserve a little bit of thanks?

It’s National Animal Control Officer Appreciation week.

Executive Director for the Greater Moncton SPCA Dave Rogers says, “They deal with things like making sure your dog is on a leash, excessive barking and noise complaints, if an animal bites or is aggressive and running through the neighbourhood. They even deal with pigeon problems. My Officers always chuckle a little bit, because there is a paragraph in the by-law about attracting pigeons to your yard. That is against the by-law in the City of Moncton.”

Rogers says they currently have five animal control officers.

“There is also a by-law that says your dogs much have a license. The Animal Control Officers will watch for that as well. You’ll find them out in the parks and on the trails. Take a moment to say thanks, because they really do put themselves in some pretty bad situations at times to keep us safe.”
