The president of Irving Oil is dispelling the rumours that the company is going to be unable to process the crude oil from western Canada brought in by the Energy East pipeline.
Ian Whitcomb was one of the speakers at the East Coast Energy Connection conference in Saint John, N.B.
“For the last several years the Irving Oil refinery has processed crude oil from Alberta and Saskatchewan on a regular basis, purchased from the same suppliers that will ship in oil on the Energy East pipeline,” says Whitcomb.
Since 2012 they have imported more than 5.3-million barrels of crude oil from Saskatchewan and Whitcomb says that the pipeline will secure the steady, safe and reliable source of Canadian crude oil for their refinery and they look forward to processing more of it. The proposed project is a 4500 kilometre pipeline which would transport about 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from Alberta and Saskatchewan.
$17.3-million has been invested by Irving Oil to support the pipeline project.
