Increases In Food Prices Ease

Consumers got a price break with food last month according to Stats Canada.

Food prices posted their smallest yearly increase in May since March of 2014, going up by 1.8%.

Prices for fresh vegetables rose by less than 2 per cent in the 12 months to May. That compares to April when had risen by a yearly rate of 11.7%.

Fresh fruit prices went up last month by an annual rate of 4.9%. That compares to 11.0% in April.

The inflation rate in New Brunswick last month was 1.6%, down from 2.2% in April largely due to a drop in gas prices.
