Increase In Animals In 2017 At Greater Moncton SPCA

2017 was a busy year for the Greater Moncton SPCA, especially with the number of animals they were caring for.

Executive Director Dave Rogers says they saw a major influx in the number of animals that were brought into the shelter, “2017 was busier than 2016, by about 500 more animals. The trend has been almost a steady decrease in animals coming into the shelter over the last ten years, but we saw a huge influx this year.”

Rogers adds that a lot of them were cats.

“There’s a very large cat issue in the entire country. We have seen extra litters this year, we’ve seen just a huge increase and that is unusual for us,” Rogers adds.

Rogers says this time last year, they would have had around 45 or 50 cats being cared for at the shelter, but instead, they have currently have around 95 cats looking to find forever homes.
