“I’m Just Kind Of Disappointed”: Mom Reacts To Fairview Knoll Playground Fire

A mother of two kids says the fire at the playground is a big loss for the community.

Stephanie Patterson is on maternity leave with a four month old, and her three year old daughter, and says the playground was a very easy way to spend the day with her family.

“It makes it a little bit easier to plan activities when you don’t have to worry about packing everybody up in the car, and going somewhere, and getting everybody out, and bringing snacks and all that when something is within walking distance,” says Patterson.

She adds when the park was rebuilt last year, it was a weight off her mind.

“They were putting a splash pad and everything in, we’ve been down there a couple times, we couldn’t even wait til the snow melted we went down there a couple weeks ago and tried to test it out as best we could while it was still snow[y] on the ground,” says Patterson. “I’m just kind of disappointed.”

She hopes it was just an unfortunate accident that led to the fire rather than a malicious act deliberately undertaken.

Patterson says the structure at Fairview Knoll Park was great for all ages of kids, and her daughter in particular enthusiastically approved of the slides because they were ‘very fast.’
