Ice Storm Took A Toll On Blood Donations In New Brunswick Last Week

The severe weather of the last week took a toll on blood donations for Canadian Blood Services.

Director of Donor Relations Peter MacDonald says the ice storm forced the cancellation of two clinics in Moncton last week, and a mobile event in Bathurst.

“And both those events combined represent a loss of 200 units of expected collections within the week,” says MacDonald. “And we wound up collecting only 72% of what our target was in New Brunswick last week.”

MacDonald says they didn’t lose any of the blood they already had, because they were able to move it safely to another facility that did have power.

He says the Moncton site at 500 Mapleton Road is back at full power, and is running all week with many available appointments.

Macdonald adds “there’s certainly a call to arms, so to speak, to the people of New Brunswick to replenish the inventory, and we can get it done this week if people book an appointment.”

Donors in the Moncton area can donate by visiting the Moncton Blood Donor Clinic this week at 500 Mapleton Road.

Clinic hours are:
Mondays from 3pm – 7pm
Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am – 2pm
Thursdays from 3pm – 7pm
Fridays and Saturdays from 9am – 1pm.

To book an appointment, locate a clinic, check your eligibility, and more, use the Give Blood App or visit blood.ca.
